Glory Behind
Glory Behind series are inspires by the murals in the churches and the background of illuminations, which continue my interest in background and negative space.
When we look at an image, we usually tend to focus on the main characters instead of the background. This series of works separate the foreground and background. I appropriated the background from those murals and illuminations, made the repetitive patterns new main characters.
Each symbol is depicted slowly, I tried to experience the spirituality and pure state of monks and craftsmen back in the old time and transcendent it to my viewers.
Timescape in Time
Timescape in Time appear to be composed of horizontal lines, but in fact they are made up by smooth curves. This configuration is comparable to time, which looks like a continuous and uninterrupted organism, but in reality consists of discrete and fragmented units. My works, in the midst of light, color, and recurring rhyme, constitute a simple meditative space, where frozen time abounds.
For me, lines encompass infinite possibilities. They possess slow and tranquil qualities, divide a pictorial space into segments, build up layered fragments of time, and also weave a web of the present mental state. Through lines, light, and color, tranquility becomes tangible and all elements on the picture seem murmuring, as if they were inviting the viewers to enter a temporary état de pureté.
